CHRIST OUR LIFE

 

Text:  “…your life is hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:3-4).

Thought:  Read the first four verses of the third chapter of Colossians and meditate on the wonder of the fact that “Christ is our life!”  This position and possession in Christ is provided by God through grace, entirely apart from human effort or merit.  We are told three things about this life in Christ:

1.  The Source of this Life.  “Your life is hidden…in God” (v.3).  As the source of all

     things, God is also the Fountainhead of this fullness of life which is to be enjoyed,

     in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Pause, and praise God for this!

2.  The Security of this Life.  “Your life is hidden with Christ in God” (v.3).

     Jesus expressed the same thought when He said, “…I give them (My sheep) eternal      

     life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

     My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch

     them out of My Father’s hand” (John 10: 28-29).  Our life in Christ is as secure as the

     Son of God Himself, for it is bound up with Him and hidden in God.

3.  The Secret of this Life.  “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things

     which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God” (Colossians 3:1). 

     To look above and to draw upon the resources that are available in our risen Savior is

     the secret of victorious living.  But we must SEEK these resources.  The verb means:

     “coveting earnestly”; “striving after.”  Repudiation of the world and the

     appropriation of the Word –as it reveals Christ to us and in us.  Remember there are

     no demands made upon our life that are not demands upon His life in us.  Let us prove

     throughout the coming days that “Christ…is our life.”

Thrust:  Christ is our life, a fact sublime;

                   We’ve nought to fear; we’re hid in Him;

                   His grace and power at any time-

                   Are ours by faith, though days be grim.  Amen.
